Charles brings extensive experience in student success initiatives and will report directly to Interim President FeRita Carter, Ph.D. In this role, he will oversee student support services and foster a holistic educational experience at the sa国际传媒官网网页入口.
Charles previously served as dean of counseling and student success at Foothill sa国际传媒官网网页入口 in the Bay Area, where he led accreditation and curriculum efforts, strengthened partnerships with educational institutions, and implemented student success initiatives such as Guided Pathways and the Student Equity Plan. He also collaborated with Stanford University to provide students with the opportunity to take a for-credit course at no cost, achieving an 85% completion rate.
In addition to his administrative roles, Charles is a lecturer at Fairfield University鈥檚 doctoral program, teaching courses in systems thinking and communities of inquiry. His leadership experience spans institutions across Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Maryland, where he has contributed to transformative practices in student services and instructional strategies.
Charles is the founder of a national leadership institute for community college male students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to advance academically and personally. His expertise includes enrollment management, grant writing, community partnerships, strategic planning, and executive coaching.
A native of Louisiana and Texas, Charles' upbringing in a working-class community inspired his dedication to community colleges. He earned his undergraduate and master鈥檚 degrees in Louisiana and completed his doctoral studies at Hartford University in Connecticut.
